“Safe Space” Exhibition at Synesthesia curated by roosi

In 2020, Brooklyn-based art gallery Synesthesia played host to the first solo exhibition of Indonesian-American artist Walid Shaharul co-curated by the art collective called roosi. Titled “SAFE SPACE,” the presentation featured 11 oil paintings and several works on paper. Shaharul is a self-taught painter from Queens, NY whose figurative works portray friends, family members and imagined subjects. Oftentimes, the artist imposes geometric and surreal forms in his compositions to introduce varying moods.
